I haven’t done a product review in a while and thought it was about time. I like to give recommendations and reviews on products that help me in the kitchen, and enhance the enjoyment I find when I’m cooking. Products that help keep me organized are especially at the top of my list. Ask John, I can be easily distracted from a task and say, “Oh, I forgot the blender to puree the carrots”, all the while letting the glaze bubble to a sticky mess because I left the stove for the blender. That is an enhancement of events but proves my point; I need to be organized!
Just like I like chopping my ingredients before starting the recipe, I like to have my products help me so that I don’t stop in the middle of cooking because I can’t find my red pepper flakes. Or, stop stirring the sauce because I forgot to prepare the spice blend mixture that will be added to the pot.
Now onto the review. The Youcopia 18-Bottle SpiceStack Spice Holder is a great addition to my kitchen. I liked it so much that after buying one, I went out and bought another one. I’m even thinking of adding a third as I dry my own spices and make my own spice blends. I keep it on my counter, but it can also go in a kitchen cabinet. I have enough room under my cabinet to have two units on top of each other.
One unit holds 18 full-sized bottles or 36 half-sized bottles. I use both commercial spices and my own. If I make my own spice, I can buy spice bottles pretty much anywhere that sells kitchenware. The units come with pre-printed labels and blank labels.
I have tried a lot of organizational spice racks to keep my spices organized, but to no avail. I even put the spices in a drawer trying to keep them in alphabetical order so I can easily find them, but when in a rush to get the spices in and out while cooking, well, I’m not so systematized. My system would break down as I rummage through the bottles trying to find the one I need, with my pot of liquid now boiling over, because chef here wasn’t prepared.
With the spice stack, the drawers are labeled so I know when I pull that drawer out, my spice will be in there. Unless, of course, I forgot to refill them. The drawers even tilt down so I can easily take out a bottle and put it back in without losing my place. The drawer slots can hold round and square bottles so I can use what I like.
If your spices need some organization then I recommend the Youcopia 18-Bottle SpiceStack Spice Holder. I love it and, for once, don’t have any criticisms on a product. For me, it was the best $30 a unit I have spent.
Until next time, happy creating.
