The culinary mecca of Nevada is Las Vegas. Everywhere you turn on Las Vegas Boulevard you see pictures of celebrity chefs like Gordon Ramsey, Michael Mina, François Payard, Thomas Keller, etc. I have guested at most of these Las Vegas celebrity chef restaurants. However, there are some restaurants that do not get the attention they deserve for the lack of the celebrity train. One of these restaurants is FIX at Bellagio. We think it is one of the most underrated restaurants in Las Vegas.
John and I went to FIX Restaurant and Bar one night last year for appetizers after seeing LOVE. We entered the darkened interior famished but only wanting a late night bite. We ordered lobster tacos that came with an avocado cream sauce and Kobe chili cheese fries. Now, I want to say we didn’t know if the food was spectacular or that we were exhausted from a day of traveling and a late night show, but we cleaned our plated like a dog licking his dinner bowl clean and we had been thinking about those Kobe chili cheese fries ever since.
When we went to Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago to celebrate our anniversary we decided to go to FIX again. This time we would guest during dinner and hopefully the food would be as great as when we went last time. It surpassed our expectations.
The ambience is great and if you are into people watching you can have a bird’s eye view sitting “outside”. I’m not into the dark lighting, but John is and thought the lighting was perfect.
The staff is friendly from the hosts to the bussers. We had two wait staff serving us that day and maybe it can be a little much coming to our table so often, however they were very friendly and we never ran out of anything we desired.
The food was as awesome as we remembered. So it wasn’t our imagination! Though, just like birthing pains, we forgot how expensive it is to eat in this establishment. But, isn’t that like anywhere on the Las Vegas strip? And sometimes it is worth the pain of peeling off those bills when you get to experience food so tantalizing.
We started off with the crispy calamari with the sweet chili sauce. The calamari was good, but the sweet chili sauce was fabulous. So much so we tried to scrape up every last drop.
John ordered the scallops “benedict”. The flavors blended so well with the bacon and crab hollandaise. The potato pancakes which was part of the entrée was a nice adage. It gave the dish another layer of flavor and texture.
However, for both of us (John usually get’s half of my meals, haha), the Kobe flat iron steak stole the show. The steak was perfectly cooked, with a beautiful sear and the seasoning was spot on. The dish came with a trio of sauces; however, while they all were good the steak didn’t need any of them. We ate it bare.
We enjoyed our meal so much that when a couple of nights later we went back to celebrate my win at a poker tournament. Other must have’s at FIX are the Kobe chili cheese fries and the buffalo style wings aptly named finger licking FIX. Yum!
Until next time, happy creating.
