With my new cookbook going into final editing, I wanted to share some recipes that will be included in the book. These recipes will be diverse and vary in skills. Enjoy.
This recipe was one of Michael’s favorites. When he was working out, he wanted protein and lots of it! He also wanted his vegetables. This was something he could whip up at home without a ton of ingredients. Though there are a few steps, this stir-fry can be made in about 40 minutes. Perfect for a student who works.
Beef with Broccoli Stir-Fry

Cook time: 10 minutes
Wait time: 20 minutes
1 pound beef round steak, cut into ½ inch slices
4 tablespoons dry sherry, divided
1 teaspoon sesame seed oil
1 teaspoon honey
2 teaspoons, plus 1 tablespoon soy sauce
¼ cup oyster sauce
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 ½ tablespoons water
1 pound broccoli florets
4 cloves garlic, minced
¼ cup vegetable oil, divided (plus more if needed)
In a large zipper bag, add together 2 tablespoons sherry, 1 teaspoon sesame seed oil, 1 teaspoon honey and 2 teaspoons soy sauce. Close bag and shake to combine. Open bag and add the broccoli strips. Shake the bag to make sure the marinade completely coats the beef. Set aside. This will bring your beef to room temperature to start stir frying.
While beef is marinating, to a bowl whisk together 2 tablespoons sherry, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch and water. Set aside.
Over medium high heat, to a large skillet heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add broccoli florets. Stir fry 5-6 minutes, or until crisp-tender. Remove from pan and set aside.
In the same pan, add remaining oil and heat. Add in garlic. Take your beef from the bag and carefully add to the hot pan. Stir fry the strips for 3-4 minutes or until desired doneness. Add the broccoli.
Give sauce in the bowl a quick whisk and carefully add the sauce to the beef and broccoli. Stir and cook until the sauce is thickened, about 2 minutes.
Serve over rice.
