This Puerto Rican Coquito is a rich, creamy, and festive holiday drink made with coconut cream, coconut milk, sweetened condensed milk, and warm spices. It’s incredibly easy to make in under 15 minutes and is perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz) cream of coconut (like Coco López)
  • 1 can (13.5 oz) unsweetened full-fat coconut milk
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup white rum (optional, like Bacardi or Don Q)
  • Cinnamon sticks (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients. Make sure your cans are at room temperature. Open the cream of coconut and scrape every bit into the blender.
  2. Add the liquids: pour in the coconut milk, sweetened condensed milk, and evaporated milk. Give it a quick stir with a spoon before blending to help everything combine.
  3. Add the spices and vanilla: sprinkle in the cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Add the vanilla extract. If using rum, pour it in now.
  4. Blend until smooth: start on low speed and gradually increase to high. Blend for about 30-60 seconds, until everything is fully combined and the mixture looks creamy and uniform.
  5. Taste and adjust: dip a spoon in and give it a try. Add more cinnamon or condensed milk if desired.
  6. Strain (optional): for an extra-smooth texture, pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into your pitcher or jar.
  7. Chill thoroughly: cover your pitcher or jar and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, but overnight is best.
  8. Serve cold: pour into small glasses. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top.

Notes

For best flavor, chill overnight. Use full-fat ingredients for the creamiest texture. For a non-alcoholic version, skip the rum and add an extra splash of coconut milk or a teaspoon of coconut extract. Coquito can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks and can be frozen for up to 3 months.
