These cozy cinnamon apple dumplings are an incredibly easy dessert made with canned biscuits, fresh apples, and a unique Mountain Dew glaze that caramelizes into a sweet, buttery syrup. Perfect for cold weather comfort, they come together in minutes and taste like a warm hug.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples (Granny Smith recommended), peeled, cored, and cut into 8 wedges each
  • 1 (16-ounce) can refrigerated biscuits (flaky layered kind, such as Pillsbury Grands)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (8 ounces) regular Mountain Dew
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Optional: pinch of nutmeg or cardamom, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, toasted pecans or walnuts for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Generously butter a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Peel both apples, cut in half from stem to bottom, remove core, and cut each half into 4 wedges (16 wedges total).
  3. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon; stir well.
  4. Open the can of biscuits and separate into 8 biscuits. Gently stretch each biscuit into a rough 4-inch circle.
  5. Place 2 apple wedges in the center of each biscuit. Sprinkle about 1 teaspoon of cinnamon sugar over the apples. Bring edges of biscuit up around apples and pinch to seal. Place seam-side down in prepared dish, arranging in 2 rows of 4.
  6. Pour melted butter evenly over dumplings. Sprinkle remaining cinnamon sugar over the top.
  7. Slowly pour 1 cup Mountain Dew around the dumplings (not directly on top) so it pools in the bottom of the dish.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes, until biscuits are golden brown and puffed, apples are tender, and glaze is bubbly and thickened. If tops brown too quickly, tent loosely with foil halfway through.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes. Serve warm, spooning glaze from the dish over each dumpling.

Notes

Use regular Mountain Dew, not diet, for proper glaze texture. Let dumplings rest 5-10 minutes after baking for glaze to thicken. For extra glaze, double butter and Mountain Dew and use a slightly larger dish. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in microwave or oven.
