This Cozy Fall Caramel Apple Sangria combines crisp apple cider, rich caramel, and warm spices for a perfect autumn drink. It includes both a boozy version for adults and a kid-friendly mocktail option, making it ideal for any fall gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (960 ml) apple cider
  • ½ cup (120 ml) caramel sauce, plus extra for drizzling
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc (or sparkling apple cider/ginger ale for mocktail)
  • ½ cup (120 ml) apple brandy (optional, skip for mocktail)
  • 2 large Honeycrisp or Granny Smith apples, thinly sliced
  • 1 large navel orange, thinly sliced
  • 3 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 2 whole star anise pods (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) maple syrup (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) fresh lemon juice
  • Ice cubes for serving

Instructions

  1. Wash the apples and orange thoroughly. Slice the apples into thin rounds, about ¼-inch thick. Slice the orange into thin rounds as well. Remove any seeds from the orange slices. Place the fruit in the bottom of a large pitcher.
  2. Drop in the cinnamon sticks and star anise pods (if using).
  3. Add the apple cider, white wine (or sparkling cider for mocktail), apple brandy (if using), and maple syrup (if using). Stir gently with a wooden spoon to combine.
  4. Drizzle the caramel sauce into the pitcher. If too thick, warm it in a small saucepan over low heat for 30 seconds. Stir gently to swirl the caramel through the liquid, leaving ribbons.
  5. Stir in the fresh lemon juice.
  6. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to 4 hours, to let flavors meld.
  7. Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the sangria over the ice, including some fruit slices and a cinnamon stick in each glass. Drizzle extra caramel sauce on top if desired.
  8. For the mocktail version, skip the brandy and use sparkling apple cider instead of wine.

Notes

For best flavor, let the sangria chill for at least 1 hour. Use room-temperature caramel sauce for easier swirling. Avoid over-stirring to keep caramel ribbons visible. The sangria tastes even better the next day. For a warm version, combine all ingredients (except ice) in a slow cooker and warm on low for 2 hours.
