This sticky, caramelized honey garlic salmon with tender asparagus is a quick and easy one-pan dinner that comes together in under 30 minutes. Perfect for cozy nights when you need a delicious, healthy meal without the fuss.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (about 6 oz each)
  • 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4–5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients: Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper. Trim woody ends off asparagus. Mince garlic.
  2. Make the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, and red pepper flakes (if using). Set aside.
  3. Cook the asparagus: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add asparagus in a single layer, season with salt, and cook for 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally, until bright green and tender-crisp. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  4. Sear the salmon: In the same skillet, melt 1 tablespoon butter. Place salmon fillets skin-side down (or presentation-side down) and cook undisturbed for 3-4 minutes until golden crust forms.
  5. Flip salmon and add garlic: Carefully flip salmon. Add minced garlic to the skillet around the salmon and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Pour in the glaze: Add the honey-soy mixture and remaining 1 tablespoon butter. Let the glaze bubble and thicken for 2-3 minutes, spooning it over the salmon as it cooks.
  7. Add asparagus back: Return cooked asparagus to the skillet and toss gently in the glaze. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over everything.
  8. Serve immediately: Transfer salmon and asparagus to plates. Spoon remaining glaze on top. Garnish with sesame seeds and flaky salt if desired.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature salmon and pat it very dry before cooking. Don’t overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if needed. Let the glaze simmer and thicken for at least 2-3 minutes to achieve a sticky, caramelized texture. Fresh garlic is essential—pre-minced won’t caramelize the same way.
