Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 jar (7 ounces) marshmallow fluff
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Green gel food coloring
  • 4 Christmas tree shaped snack cakes, chopped into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1/4 cup holiday sprinkles
  • For serving: graham crackers, vanilla wafers, pretzel sticks, apple slices, or shortbread cookies

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese: Take cream cheese out of fridge at least 30 minutes before starting. If forgotten, unwrap, cut into cubes, and microwave on 50% power for 15-second intervals until soft, not melted.
  2. Beat the cream cheese: Place softened cream cheese in a large mixing bowl. Beat with a hand mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes until completely smooth and fluffy. Scrape down sides with a spatula.
  3. Add the marshmallow fluff: Scoop entire jar of marshmallow fluff into the bowl. Beat on low speed at first, then increase to medium. Mix for about 1 minute until fully combined.
  4. Add powdered sugar and vanilla: Add sifted powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Beat on low speed until sugar is incorporated, then increase to medium for another minute. Scrape sides again. Optionally add a tiny pinch of salt.
  5. Add the green food coloring: Start with 3-4 drops of green gel food coloring. Beat and check color. Add more drops until desired Christmas tree green is achieved (about 8 drops total).
  6. Chop the snack cakes: Chop Christmas tree cakes into small cubes, about 1/2 inch each, using a serrated knife.
  7. Fold in the cake pieces: Using a spatula, gently fold chopped cake pieces into the green dip. Fold just until evenly distributed, about 8-10 folds.
  8. Add the sprinkles: Reserve about 1 tablespoon of sprinkles for topping. Gently fold the rest into the dip.
  9. Transfer to serving bowl: Scoop dip into serving bowl. Smooth top with spatula. Sprinkle reserved sprinkles on top. Add extra cake pieces for visual appeal if desired.
  10. Chill or serve immediately: Serve right away or chill for about 20 minutes to firm up slightly. If serving later, cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Take out 15 minutes before serving to soften slightly.

Notes

Temperature is key: use room temperature cream cheese for smooth texture. Gel food coloring is preferred over liquid to avoid thinning the dip. Fold cake pieces gently to keep them intact. For best texture, serve within 24 hours. Can be made dairy-free with vegan cream cheese and dairy-free marshmallow fluff.
