This quick and easy dip combines sweet, tart cranberries with tangy pickled jalapeños and creamy cream cheese for a crowd-pleasing appetizer that comes together in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries (about 3 cups)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup pickled jalapeños, drained and finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon pickled jalapeño brine
  • 16 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • Optional: 1/4 cup sour cream
  • Crackers, crostini, or tortilla chips for serving
  • Optional garnish: fresh cilantro or green onion

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese. Take the cream cheese out of the fridge at least 30 minutes before you start. You want it soft enough to spread easily without tearing your crackers. If you’re in a rush, unwrap the blocks and microwave them on 50% power for 15-second intervals until just softened—not melted, just soft.
  2. Start the cranberries. In your medium saucepan, combine the cranberries (fresh or frozen), sugar, and water. Stir everything together. Set the pan over medium-high heat and bring it to a simmer. You’ll hear the cranberries start to pop after about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the jalapeños. Once the cranberries have started popping (about 5 minutes in), stir in the chopped pickled jalapeños and the brine. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for another 8-10 minutes. The mixture should thicken into a jammy consistency—not watery, but not as thick as jelly.
  4. Cool the topping slightly. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the cranberry mixture cool for 5-10 minutes. You want it warm, not piping hot, when you spoon it over the cream cheese.
  5. Prepare the base. While the cranberries are cooling, spread the softened cream cheese in an even layer on your serving plate. Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to create a smooth surface with a slight well in the center. If you’re using sour cream, stir it into the cream cheese before spreading.
  6. Assemble the dip. Spoon the warm cranberry-jalapeño mixture over the cream cheese, spreading it gently to the edges. Leave a small border of cream cheese visible for a pretty presentation.
  7. Garnish and serve. If using, sprinkle fresh cilantro or sliced green onions over the top. Serve immediately with crackers, crostini, or chips.

Notes

Don’t skip the brine—it adds a vinegary brightness that balances the sweetness. Watch your heat level; use mild pickled jalapeños for a milder version. The cream cheese should be cold-firm, not room-temperature soft, for the best texture contrast. The cranberry topping can be made up to 3 days in advance and stored in the fridge.
