These Spooky Witch Finger Pretzel Rods are a fun and easy Halloween treat made with pretzel rods dipped in white chocolate, topped with an almond fingernail and a dab of red gel icing for a creepy effect. Perfect for parties, they’re a salty-sweet crowd-pleaser that comes together in about 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1215 pretzel rods (thick, sturdy ones like Snyder’s of Hanover)
  • 1 ½ cups (260g) white chocolate chips or melting wafers (e.g., Ghirardelli)
  • 3040 sliced almonds (raw, blanched)
  • 1 small tube red gel icing (e.g., Wilton)
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional, to thin chocolate)
  • Sprinkles or edible glitter (optional, for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Place white chocolate chips or melting wafers in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals on medium power (50% power), stirring thoroughly after each interval, until completely smooth and glossy (about 1 ½ to 2 minutes total). If too thick, stir in 1 teaspoon coconut oil.
  3. Hold one pretzel rod by one end. Dip the other end into the melted white chocolate, covering about two-thirds of the pretzel. Lift out and let excess drip back into the bowl. Tap gently on the bowl edge if needed.
  4. Place the dipped pretzel on the prepared baking sheet. While chocolate is still wet, use the back of a spoon or a small offset spatula to gently smooth the chocolate at the tip, forming a slightly rounded ‘finger’ shape.
  5. Immediately press a sliced almond into the chocolate at the tip of the pretzel, angled slightly upward (pointy end away from the pretzel). Press gently so it sticks.
  6. Using a toothpick or the tip of a small knife, gently press a few lines into the chocolate along the sides of the pretzel to create ‘knuckles’ and ‘wrinkles’ (2-3 subtle indentations per finger).
  7. Apply a tiny dab of red gel icing at the base of the almond ‘nail’ on each finger. Use a toothpick to smear it slightly for a bloody look.
  8. Let the pretzels sit at room temperature until the white chocolate is completely firm and set (about 30-45 minutes). Do not refrigerate.
  9. Once set, carefully peel the witch fingers off the parchment paper. Serve immediately or store.

Notes

Do not overheat white chocolate; use medium power and stir frequently. Work in batches of 5-6 pretzels to prevent chocolate from setting. For a cleaner look, chill sliced almonds in the freezer for 5 minutes before using. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Do not refrigerate.
