A tart, bubbly, and festive mocktail made with fresh cranberries, orange, and ginger beer. Perfect for holiday parties or cozy nights in, this easy recipe comes together in under 5 minutes and is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup fresh cranberries, plus more for garnish
  • 1/2 medium orange, sliced into wedges
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cranberry juice
  • 1/2 cup chilled ginger beer
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice (about half a lime)
  • 1–2 teaspoons simple syrup or honey (optional)
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional garnish: fresh rosemary sprig, cinnamon stick, extra cranberries, or an orange slice

Instructions

  1. Fill a copper mug or glass with ice cubes about 3/4 full.
  2. Drop fresh cranberries and 2 orange wedges (with peel) into the glass. Add lime juice and simple syrup if using. Gently muddle with a muddler or wooden spoon until cranberries pop and orange releases oils, about 15-20 seconds. Do not over-muddle.
  3. Pour cranberry juice over the muddled fruit and stir gently.
  4. Slowly pour chilled ginger beer down the side of the glass to preserve carbonation. Stir gently once.
  5. Garnish with skewered cranberries and orange slice, and tuck a rosemary sprig or cinnamon stick into the glass. Serve immediately.
  6. For a pitcher batch: Multiply ingredients by number of servings. In a large pitcher, muddle cranberries and orange wedges. Add cranberry juice and lime juice, stir. Just before serving, add ginger beer and ice. Stir gently and pour into glasses.

Notes

For best results, chill all ingredients and the glass beforehand. Adjust sweetness to taste; most people don’t need extra sweetener. The cranberry-orange base can be made up to 24 hours in advance and stored in the fridge. For a warm version, skip the ice and ginger beer, and instead heat the muddled mixture with cranberry juice and lime juice, then stir in hot ginger tea.
